Blackland Collaborative members assessed the property for the new Delta Millworks headquarters to establish management goals that will allow the owners to build out necessary infrastructure and office space while preserving an existing healthy grassland and diversifying woodland components that have become less diverse due to overgrowth from aggressive native pioneer species.

The plan includes soil and plant community analysis that will help shape revegetation efforts post construction so that disturbed areas of the landscape can begin to expand native grass and forb components of the historical plant community that would have existed prior to Texas’ european colonization when disturbance drivers such as wildfire and grazing helped shape a biodiverse landscape. The existing grassland contains local genotypes that extend back to the emergence of grasslands after glacial retreats, so its preservation is in keeping with Delta Millwork’s commitment to sustainability and larger effort to “preserving the forests of our world.”
