Rainey Street Nature Play Area
Austin’s Trail Conservancy is emphasizing the connection between the Ann and Roy Butler trail and the rapidly developing Rainey Street community. This area is becoming important for urban Austinite’s access to nature.
This gateway to the Trail is an important entry point that the Trail Conservation envisions improving ecological function, providing expanded recreational benefits, and increasing amenities for the neighborhood and trail-users. Blackland Collaborative teamed with our friends at DWG. landscape architects to design a nature play component that will provide opportunities for kids to connect with nature while developing physically and mentally. The design includes best practice indicators such as biodiverse native pollinator gardens, boulders and logs (harvested from drought impacted trees and invasive plants on site), a log tunnel, loose parts play, and other features. Our team provided construction oversight and wil provide post installation monitoring as well. The park opened to the public July 2024.
